This guide will walk you through how to set up rental apartments—either as individual units or full buildings with multiple units.
Video:
🚀 Step 1: Start by Adding a Property
Go to the Properties Tab
Click “Properties” in the main navigation menu.
Click “Add Property”
Use the “Add Property” button in the top-right corner of the screen.
Number of Buildings
If your apartment complex has multiple buildings, you can add and name them here using their addresses or internal labels.
For this example, we’ll stick with one building.
🏘️ Naming the Property
Use the name of the apartment complex as the property name.
Example: Pinewood Apartments
For clarity, avoid listing the unit number in the property name if you're setting up multiple units in the same complex. Unit numbers will be added in the next step.
🏷️ Property Type & Owner
Set Property Type
Scroll down and select “Rental” as the property type. All units created will inherit this type.
Assign an Owner (Optional)
If you are setting this up for an owner who owns the full apartment building, assign them here.
If you’re only setting up an individual unit (e.g. for a unit owner in a condo-like setup), leave the owner blank at this stage.
🧱 Unit Setup
After setting the property details, you’ll be taken to the Units screen.
Auto-Generated Units
You may see some units already created for you.
To build your own unit list, delete the generated ones or click “Add Units Later.”
Create a Unit
Click “Add Unit”
Unit Name: Use the apartment number (e.g., Unit 205, Suite 1A)
Type: Ensure it’s set to Rental
Repeat for as many units as you need.
👤 Adding an Owner (Optional)
If you're assigning ownership at the unit level:
Go to the Owners Tab
Add or Select the Owner
If the owner already exists, select them.
Otherwise, create a new owner and enter their contact info.
Assign the Unit to Their Assets
Search for the property and unit.
Click the checkbox next to the unit name to link it to the owner.
✅ Final Review
Once your units are created and owners are assigned (if applicable):
You can now manage each unit individually.
Lease tracking, rent payments, maintenance tickets, and communications are all available per unit.
All units appear under the main apartment property screen for easy navigation.
💡 Use Cases
Scenario | Setup Tip |
One landlord owns entire building | Add property → add units → assign owner to full property |
Multiple landlords, each owns a unit | Add property → add units → assign owners at unit level |
One unit in a larger apartment complex | Add property → one unit only → skip owner until later |
